(May 4, 2022) – Alt darlings Dear Rouge are excited to share the video for their latest single “Gimme Spirit,” that premiered earlier today via Wonderland. This raucous celebration exudes fun, frivolity and joy. Watch the video here.

“Gimme Spirit” which follows their number one single “Fake Fame” has quickly followed suit and has already hit the Top 15 on alt-radio charts in Canada since it’s release a few weeks ago! Singer Danielle McTaggart explains the inspiration behind the track:

We wrote this song in a time of uncertainty and fear of the future. The lyric that stuck was “take me back to why we started in the first place”. We felt this sense that if we could remember the whole reason and core desire to make this record, then the heart and passion would just come. We just knew it was special; this song brings us hope and ended up being the title track for the album (Spirit).

The video for this song was filmed at our home and directed by our good friend Steve Bays. We wanted to make it feel as much like us, and our lives, as possible. We set up our bathtub with black light features, glow in the dark stars from our childhood, and some moody lighting. Then we invited a bunch of locals and friends over and danced the night away. We capped off the night by going to the beach to have a bonfire and set off a bunch of fireworks at 1am. Fun fact: the very first song we ever released and did a video for as Dear Rouge was called “Diamonds”, and it was filmed around the fireworks in Vancouver. We were going “back to why we started” in that way – a full circle moment there. The video feels so authentic to us.

“Gimme Spirit” comes off the band’s latest full-length effort Spirit released last month. The album has earned critical acclaim with an 8/10 from Exclaim!, and rave reviews from the likes of Vancouver Sun and Monte Cristo Magazine.

The band have also just announced a support slot on the upcoming Metric tour that will see them play shows in Western Canada with additional summer festival dates and two dates in Vancouver and Toronto with Vance Joy. See below for all dates.

Unveil Sun-Soaked Music Video for Soulful Track “Sweet Susie”

(Toronto, ON – April 18, 2022) – Last Friday, Toronto-based band Altameda released its third studio album, Born Losers, via Pheromone Recordings/Missing Piece. The album was recorded in Toronto by Thomas D’Arcy (Neko Case, The Sheepdogs) and mixed in Portland, OR by Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, Whitney, R.E.M.). To mark the release of Born Losers, Altameda has unveiled a new music video for their song “Sweet Susie,” a soulful track about finding strength in times of trouble. The video shows Altameda guitarist and vocalist, Troy Snaterse, walking through a scenic forest with rays of golden-hour sun casting through the trees. Shot in one take in the waning daylight, the music video could be considered emblematic to the album: sparse and simple yet technical in execution and effective in conveying the warm and melancholy feeling of living in the moment. Over the weekend, the band appeared on NPR’s Weekend Edition to discuss the inspiration behind the album.

“The process of working with people remotely freed up a lot of time for us to explore and experiment with our own sounds and textures,” explains Erik M. Grice. “Having the chance to take risks and not be afraid to fail turned out to be a really beautiful thing.” Snaterse interjects “When you’re in a band that’s touring all the time, it’s easy to get drawn toward the heavier, louder, rockier side of things because that’s what you need to cut through the noise some nights. With just the two of us this time around and no performances for months, I felt like we could dig more into the nuances and dynamics and push ourselves to new heights creatively.”

Where past Altameda records showcased the sound of a rock and roll band cutting loose live in the studio, Born Losers is an exercise in craftsmanship and restraint, one that relies on subtlety over brute force as it learns to let go and fully embrace the present. As Snaterse explains to NPR’s Scott Simon, he wrote much of the lyrics during a tumultuous stretch in which he nearly lost his father to a stroke, only to lose his 18-year-old stepbrother just weeks later in a tragic accident. The resulting emotional upheaval permeates the music in ways both painful and transcendent, with raw, candid performances often arriving wrapped inside gorgeous, gently atmospheric arrangements.

Previous singles from Born Losers received praise from FLOOD, Quiet Down Magazine and Musical Survival Guide; the singles have also been featured on numerous playlists including Apple’s Wax Eclectic and Spotify’s Fresh Folk, Folk & Friends and Chill + Atmospheric. Under the Radar premiered the band’s track “Wheel of Love,” saying “the track finds the band reflecting on the constant passage of time, but where [“Dead Man’s Suit”] meditated on mortality, here the band explores the titular wheel of love. Snaterse and Grice recall moments of fondly remembered joy, calling to mind vignettes with friends, family, and lovers and tracing them through the years. Meanwhile, keening pedal steel and gorgeous strings back the pair’s nostalgic reverie, evoking the warmth and comfort of the song’s treasured memories.”

(Toronto, April 8, 2022) Today, Vancouver alt-rock duo Dear Rouge share their long-awaited third full-length album, Spirit (out now via Pheromone Records). As the band wrote of the record, “Spirit is the most vulnerable and raw side of Danielle’s inner thoughts, and the line being thrown from these questions and deep reckonings within oneself, urging you to grab hold and hang on for dear life.”

The band recorded Spirit secluded away from busy cityscapes. Drew and Danielle took up residence in a lakeside cabin shortly after the release of PHASES, their sophomore record. The duo found themselves spending their days alone together, and Spirit began to take form over the winter months.

“I had this epiphany,” Danielle shared, “that we needed to come back to ourselves and the joy and comfort we found in each other when we began writing music together.”

Her epiphany meant a return to vulnerability, honesty, the enjoyment of their own art and an authenticity in working with what’s true for you. Instead of seeking out high brow co-writers and listening to too many outside voices, Danielle felt compelled to hear those already closest to her. On Spirit, the band enlisted Thomas D’arcy (Neko Case, July Talk, The Sheepdogs), their long-time collaborator Ryan Worsley (GUS, Mathew V), Broken Social Scene founder Brendan Canning, close friend and drummer Daniel Klenner (Peach Pit, We Are The City), pop-star and former tour-mate Lights, as well as singer-songwriter Jordan Klassen, and producers Derek Hoffman, Frederik Thaae, and Herag Sanbalian.

Spirit is a different avenue of sound for Dear Rouge. Along with raw individual reflections, the duo strove for a more grassroots approach to the instrumentation. Acoustic guitars from the tracks’ demo stages remain audible. Songs written on piano are kept to their instrument of origin, instead of being replaced by synthesizers. Rather than opening a computer, Dear Rouge and Thomas D’arcy utilized Hammond organs, strings, and glockenspiels to create atmospheric elements. It’s all still distinctly Dear Rouge, but more personal, more vulnerable, and more intimate. Spirit is an inspiration to its listeners to be bold and brave; to foster, to create, to encourage and to celebrate ourselves and others.

Born into music royalty, Martha is the daughter of folk legends Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III and sister to the acclaimed singer Rufus Wainwright. In the recording on Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Kate accompanies herself masterfully on the guitar. It is only her and the instrument and as she plays the very last note you can hear a tiny bell ring out. Kate told me it was the sound of a tear falling on the string. It cut me up pretty hard.

‘Here We Go Again’ is a rousing singalong whose freshness belies the lyrical subject matter. “It’s the idea we’re living through a communal Groundhog Day. We’re all looking at the news headlines, but nobody seems to learn the lessons,” Mike Scott said of the track. “As a culture we keep making the same mistakes. “The song conceptually tackles the sentiment of leaving your hometown for the presumably greener pastures of some proverbial promise-land,” explains Altameda’s Troy Snaterse. “Based loosely on a conversation my partner and I had at a local bar next to the cigarette vending machine, we discussed the pros and cons of packing up and starting a new life. The idea that you could have the ability to become a more crystallized version of yourself, without the burden of geographical limitations.”

This is the album’s fourth single, following previous tracks “Dead Man’s Suit,” “Nightmare Town” and “Wheel Of Love.” Under the Radar premiered the latter, saying “the track finds the band reflecting on the constant passage of time, but where [“Dead Man’s Suit”] meditated on mortality, here the band explores the titular wheel of love. Altameda is Troy Snaterse (guitar, vocals) and Erik M. Grice (drums). Founded initially as a solo project for Snaterse, Altameda quickly garnered early acclaim with the release of their 2016 full-length debut, Dirty Rain. Altameda’s ambitious 2019 sophomore effort, Time Hasn’t Changed You, was met with continued praise on both sides of the Atlantic — the CBC’s Grant Lawrence even proclaimed them “the best Canadian band I have heard in a while.” Where past Altameda records showcased the sound of a rock and roll band cutting loose live in the studio, Born Losers is an exercise in craftsmanship and restraint, one that relies on subtlety over brute force as it learns to let go and fully embrace the present. Snaterse wrote much of the lyrics during a tumultuous stretch in which he nearly lost his father to a stroke, only to lose his 18-year-old stepbrother just weeks later in a tragic accident. (Toronto, ON – January 28, 2022) – Vancouver alt-rock duo Dear Rouge have unveiled the details of Spirit, their third full-length album due out April 22, 2022 via Pheromone Recordings, and available for pre-order and pre- saves today. The band stated “Spirit is the most vulnerable and raw side of Danielle’s inner thoughts, and the line being thrown from these questions and deep reckonings within oneself, urging you to grab hold and hang on for dear life.” The duo of Danielle and Drew McTaggart have been making waves with the first two tracks from the upcoming new record– the delicate and understated “Life Goes By And I Can’t Keep Up” and the radio chart burner “Fake Fame”, which hit #1 this week on the Alternative Chart (Mediabase).

The band recorded Spirit secluded away from busy cityscapes. Drew and Danielle took up residence in a lakeside cabin shortly after the release of PHASES, their sophomore record. The duo found themselves spending their days alone together, and Spirit began to take form over the winter months. “I had this epiphany,” Danielle shared, “that we needed to come back to ourselves and the joy and comfort we found in each other when we began writing music together”. Her epiphany meant a return to vulnerability, honesty, the enjoyment of their own art and an authenticity in working with what’s true for you. Instead of seeking out high brow co-writers and listening to too many outside voices, Danielle felt compelled to hear those already closest to her. On Spirit the band enlisted Thomas D’arcy (Neko Case, July Talk, The Sheepdogs), their long-time collaborator Ryan Worsley (GUS, Mathew V), Broken Social Scene founder Brendan Canning, close friend and drummer Daniel Klenner (Peach Pit, We Are The City), pop-star and former tour-mate Lights, as well as singer-songwriter Jordan Klassen, and producers Derek Hoffman, Frederik Thaae and Herag Sanbalian.

Spirit is a different avenue of sound for Dear Rouge. Along with raw individual reflections, the duo strove for a more grassroots approach to the instrumentation. Acoustic guitars from the tracks’ demo stages remain audible. Songs written on piano are kept to their instrument of origin, instead of being replaced by synthesizers. Rather than opening a computer, Dear Rouge and Thomas D’arcy utilized Hammond organs, strings, and glockenspiels to create atmospheric elements. It’s all still distinctly Dear Rouge, but more personal, more vulnerable, and more intimate. Spirit is an inspiration to its listeners to be bold and brave; to foster, to create, to encourage and to celebrate ourselves and others.

(Toronto, ON – January 21, 2022) – Kiefer Sutherland today unveils his eagerly anticipated third studio album Bloor Street. Launched with an interview on this morning’s Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 and previewed last night with an interview and session for Bob Harris, Bloor Street follows his 2019 album Reckless & Me, which debuted at #9 on the Official Album Charts, and simultaneously topped the Americana, Country and Independent charts.

As indicated by the recent singles “So Full Of Love”, “Two Stepping In Time” and the title track, the album finds Kiefer navigating a range of emotions, from romance to nostalgia and from heartache to imaginative fictional narratives. While it explores a spectrum of moods and sonic influences, it’s united by the grit, pure feeling and authenticity of his voice together with his consistently compelling songwriting.

The album was produced and mixed by the multiple Grammy Award winner Chris Lord-Alge (Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood), and recorded at PLYRZ Studios in Los Angeles.

Kiefer says, “Writing and recording this album was a unique experience given the pandemic and subsequent restrictions that followed. I found myself, like so many, with a block of time that I had never been afforded before, which allowed me to not only reflect upon my life but also to write about it. Music has always been a personal extension of storytelling for me. I couldn’t be more excited to share these new songs.”

Kiefer boosts the album’s launch as he today also shares a new video for the song ‘Chasing The Rain’. Effectively a love letter in song written to bridge the distance with a loved one while on tour, its poignancy is heightened by the simplicity of the visual. It collates exhilarating live footage alongside behind-the-scenes clips of Kiefer’s adventures on the road.

His huge UK and European tour in support of Bloor Street is currently in the process of being rescheduled. Expect new dates to be announced soon. In the meantime, Kiefer is sharing a series of solo acoustic performances of every song from the album, alongside his reflections on the experiences and stories that inspired each one. “The concept for the song ‘Nightmare Town’ was influenced largely by the film Badlands, and the true story that the film is loosely based on,” explains Altameda’s Troy Snaterse. “While the violence of those stories has no place in ‘Nightmare Town,’ I found the desperation of the characters compelling. I will always love my hometown, however, the desire to change your geographical placement for the sake of adventure and spiritual growth is something that I’m sure most people can relate to at some point in their lives. Altameda Release New Song “Wheel Of Love” via Missing Piece Records/Pheromone Recordings

(Toronto, ON – December 9, 2021) – Today, Toronto-based rock band Altameda released a new song “Wheel Of Love” via Missing Piece Records/Pheromone Recordings. The song was recorded in Toronto by Thomas D’Arcy (Neko Case, The Sheepdogs) and mixed in Portland, OR by Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, Whitney, R.E.M.).

“After initial plans to record our album in 2020 fell through due to the pandemic, we were left with a large window to continue the writing process,” says Altameda’s Troy Snaterse. “The feeling of isolation, and uncertainty at this time left me longing for some kind of safety net. This led me to conceptualize the idea of a ‘Wheel Of Love’ as a touchstone for anyone who feels alone, or in pain. It is something that will spin and roll on forever,” he continues. “We set out to evoke this feeling, sonically. Blending subtle instrumentation, with a soaring string arrangement to create a sense of hopefulness and warmth.”

That sense of warmth is conveyed in the video through candid moments with friends and a house filled with plants and tchotchkes. The video brims with a sense of familiarity; simultaneously looking back at small moments that add up to something substantial and a nod to memories waiting to be made.

In September, Altameda shared “Dead Man’s Suit” which was added to Spotify’s Fresh Folk playlist. FLOOD Magazine premiered the track saying “‘Dead Man’s Suit’ lives in this eerie idea of impermanence much in the same way the band’s vocalist Troy Snaterse now lives in the titular suit, reflecting upon mortality while his backing band provides subtle instrumentation in the form of dampened piano and swelling strings.”

What originally started as a recording session for singer-songwriter Troy Snaterse quickly became a group effort. Compelled by a mix of genres and shared experiences, the band holds a respect for tradition, while having the sophistication to shake it off. Altameda’s Troy Snaterse describes writing “Dead Man’s Suit” while on tour, saying “Whenever we arrived in a town with a few hours to spare before the gig, we would often source out a vintage shop and poke around for some flamboyant accoutre to don for the local barflies who would stumble into the venue that night. This was the last stop of the tour, and we had found ourselves in Denver, Colorado. As I sifted past barbecue stained sweaters, and grease soaked Levi’s, I spotted an all white, two-piece suit cloaked in a dusty plastic garment bag. It fit me as if it were previously tailored to me. As I glanced into the mirror, I started to consider the previous owner, and what relevance the suit had to him. It was of another time and place and had somehow been passed through enough hands to find me in that shop in Denver. I purchased it and wore it on stage that night. As I sweat beneath the lights, I could feel the presence of impermanence inside of the room.”

(Toronto, ON – October 1, 2021) – After announcing details of his upcoming third album Bloor Street, as well as an extensive UK and European tour, Kiefer Sutherland today shares the album’s new single and title track, along with its full tracklist. The Bloor Street album is set for release on January 21st via Pheromone Recordings.

The “Bloor Street” single provides a taste of what to expect from the album. A serene country-tinged rock ballad, “Bloor Street” finds Kiefer reflecting on his time growing up in Toronto,taking in the rush of the city alongside its biting winds and iconic skyline. The details are specific to the city, but the broader meaning is universal: wherever we grow up inevitably plays a part in shaping our future.

The single is released alongside an accompanying video. Directed by Tom Kirk at Hidden Road Studios, it extends the song’s poignant sense of nostalgia. Interspersed between cuts of Kiefer’s performance of the track are a montage of images of snapshots from Toronto’s history. That tender mood is enriched by personal photographs of Kiefer, dating all the way back to childhood.

Kiefer says, “They say you can never go home. This song, for me, says in your heart you never leave.”

The Bloor Street album presents a rich variety of sounds. “Two Stepping In Time” ups the tempo as Kiefer steps boldly into heartland rock territory to tell a story of a love that changes everything – a theme which he extends with both ‘So Full Of Love’ and “Chasing The Rain”. There are bigger surprises elsewhere, with the surprisingly tender “County Jail Gate” telling the tale of a life-long criminal who can’t stay out of prison, while the brighter production of “Goodbye” struts with a swaggering Stax R&B groove. Kiefer brings the curtain down on the album with “Down The Line”, a touching duet which brings heartache and hope in equal measure.

The album was produced and mixed by the multiple Grammy Award winner Chris Lord-Alge (Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood), and recorded at PLYRZ Studios in Los Angeles. It was then mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound.
